In October 2023 the kids had moved to respective boyfriend's parent's houses. Not necessarily ideal, but that's how it turned out. Quite quickly, both of them realised that living in someone else's parent's house was perhaps not really moving on and before we knew it they were both house hunting.
Amber was the first to settle on a pad to move to - an upstairs maisonette in a small hamlet called Beausale between Warwick and Ballsall Common. She has gone alone with the purchase, so it's quite modest but perfect for her, we believe. It's already got a cat flap, is in a quiet rural setting but still close to amenities in the town and is a little more convenient for her to get to work and back. We hope she gets the keys late February.
Charlotte and Hugo were next, obviously (sibling rivalry?), and very quickly decided on a mid terrace house, literally just around the corner from where we were in Erica Drive. It had been on the market less than two weeks and we think it's really quite sweet - well maintained and maybe a spare bedroom big enough for when we visit.....
A big move for both kids - sorting out mortgages, solicitors, house insurance and thinking about budget balancing to make these homes their own vs affordability. We are so proud of them and I think they are proud of themselves. They are both so excited to get moved in to their own homes and become fully fledged adults. This is all we ever wanted for them - to be happy and self sufficient. Sometimes it just needs a little push in the right direction.
Having brought about 10 boxes up to Scotland of childhood memory items and duplicate household stuff, we hope soon to repatriate them to England for the kids. We may need to hire a little self drive van, but it has the dual benefits of getting them started with a good set of home contents for free, and freeing up space in John's beloved garage!
