To take a short break from our DIY we decided to check out the walk nearest to us, recommended by Adam and Emma. It is called Lovers' Walk (the pedant in me is upset by that missing apostrophe) and takes you up a path alongside a tumbling river. The path splits and you can then either carry on up to a loch at the top of a good climb (saving this for another time), or turn to wind your way through trees and rhododendrons before returning down to the road beside trickle channels of water and dripping moss. It was so quiet and peaceful after leaving the roar of the waterfalls behind, and we are looking forward to seeing it all in bloom in a few months time.
We continued our walk by crossing over the road and down past a derelict greenhouse which we had admired from the road every time we have driven past. It has a few panes of glass left in place and all the gears that would have opened the roof lights, and is huge. We don't know who it belongs to or how old it is, but one of these days we'll try and find out. We ended up wandering through the caravan park by mistake, but apparently the owners don't mind.
We turned up a forestry track, petted a sheep whilst the others watched us suspiciously, and then it started to rain. Luckily we were almost back at the car so we picked up our pace and got back before we got too wet. The sun kept breaking through the cloud cover periodically as it sank below the hills, casting a beautiful golden hour glow on the fields and the falling droplets.
