After our frenetic bedroom decorating ahead of 'I escaped to the Country' coming to see us we were a little exhausted but put our best feet forwards on the day of filming.
The production crew arrived early morning and set about their shots of the house and garden without anyone in them. Sonali arrived a bit later with the sound guy. We'd told them that we hadn't really done anything in the house but we managed to make something up for the show - not sure how it will come across! The crew knew what they wanted to film and had a plan.
Liz had proposed doing some simple flower arrangements in a Japanese style (to tie in with the house theme) and the natural place to do it was in the garden as it was a really lovely day. So hopefully there's some general chit chat and flower stuff that folks can have a laugh about at our expense.
John's 'B story' was DIY so there's probably some staged filming of drilling or general destruction! He did offer to hop on one of the bikes but the show can't film you on a bike without a helmet...so they settled for wheeling the boat out of the garage.
We sat out in the sun for some general questions whilst sipping green tea from a tetsubin. Quite middle class really! We felt a lot more relaxed during filming, ready for their directions, had lots more to say and had a better idea of what sort of footage they might want and that they could cut it down accordingly. Hopefully we gave interesting and varied answers to their questions and honest and entertaining stories for the watchers.
We'd arranged to hop over to the Oystercatcher and meet Adam and Emma who were going to be interviewed for the show (we'll only know what they chatted about when the show is revealed as we couldn't hear what was being said.) Tom, one of the cameras guys, told us it was good stuff though.
All was wrapped up by about 4.30pm. After filming we arranged for Adam and Emma to come over for dinner, which we managed to throw together with very few ingredients and no plan. Fergus, one of their dogs, decided to roll around in sheep poo in the garden then come in! They were mortified, but a quick hose down and all was fine - good times!
We don't know when it will air, or what will make the cut, but we think we will get half an episode alongside another couple's follow up journey. And, Liz is just a as nervous about the next episode as first time round...John's fairly horizontal as ever!
