House nineteen - with loch frontage

Updated: Nov 19, 2023

Well look at that, a beautiful cottage, set back from the road with uninterrupted views over the loch and land down to the water's edge! The house is a really cute traditional Scottish cottage with absolutely bags of history! With sitting room (and wood burning stove) and dining kitchen overlooking the front garden and loch view. Upstairs two double bedrooms. This house ticks EVERY SINGLE BOX!

Offers over £310,000 - Millside Cottage, Cladich, Argyll and Bute

Millside Cottage is understood to date back to 1880 and is a traditional stone built Victorian cottage. In 1906, the property was in fact the telephone exchange for the area and adopted many guises before becoming a holiday cottage in the 1970s. The cottage has undergone a significant refurbishment in 2021. This included installation of an oil-fired central heating system, new kitchen and shower room, new walls and insulation. A new electric pump for the water supply was installed.

Millside sits within lovely private grounds. There is an enclosed area of garden to both the front and rear. Beyond there is a large area of grazing situated either side of the entrance drive which extends to about 3.42 acres. With livestock fencing, it could be used to create a couple of paddocks. The land is bordered to the north by an attractive burn and to the south by some mixed mature woodland. On the other side of the main road, there is an additional area of rough grazing and amenity woodland which extends to about 3.42 acres. There is also 118 metres of frontage to Loch Awe.

So, draw a triangle from each of the bottom corners of the photo below with the house at the apex, and that gives you the borders of the property included in the sale. Wow! A beautiful house, a neat garden, grazing land and loch frontage. So we could walk from our door, across our own land and swim from our own water front in the amazingly names Loch Awe - awesome! This house is my everything my heart desires.

Cladich is a small, peaceful settlement on the shores on Loch Awe. Loch Awe is one of Scotland's most famous lochs; stretching to over 40 km, it is a haven for bird watchers, anglers, kayakers, artists, and nature lovers. It is renowned for trout and pike fishing. Mountain biking, hillwalking, climbing, mountaineering, sailing, golfing, diving, shooting, and deerstalking are all available nearby. More extensive services can be found in the town of Inveraray (11 miles), situated on the shores of Loch Fyne. It boasts great restaurants, art galleries, pubs, artisan shops, a fish and chip shop, and a supermarket, and its most well-known attraction is Inveraray Castle – the seat of Dukes of Argyll for centuries and now open to the public, with an award-winning exhibition and restaurant.

Oban is not too far away either, giving me access to the ferries across to our favourite place in the whole world - the Outer Hebrides whenever I want! What more could I possibly want?

So why didn't we bid on it?? It's an excellent question! In the end, despite me repeatedly mentioning it, John said we wouldn't win it based on the fact the we didn't win the last two properties we bid on, and the starting price of £310,000. I don't know why I didn't push it harder because I really think this could have been an incredible property offering exactly the lifestyle I have my heart set on. I definitely have a little pang of regret when I look at these photos now.
