Last Day and Heading Home

After Martin, Sarah and the 3 kids left we had a few hours left, before heading back home, to tidy the house up and maybe tick one last job off the list. Liz decided that finishing up painting the main bedroom was that last job. We had begun tow days earlier and run out of time, so finishing off translates into re-painting the ceiling, edging the walls with Crown White Pepper Matt, and then rollering one last coat. Oh, and painting the radiator.

As ever, ambition to achieve a task exceeds both time available and materials. Then when something else gets thrown in the mix, it's fair to say we left on a bit of a 'marital'. The something else was an area of the wall under the end window where painting with the roller just resulted in the roller pulling off the existing paintwork, in patches. With little time available to sort it out, we bodged it up for next time. And then we ran out of paint!

It was also bank holiday Monday and we were conscious that no matter what time we left, we would get holiday-maker traffic on the journey home. John thought going by the Western Ferry from Dunoon to Gourock would be best to avoid any dawdling motorhomes around Loch Lomond. As ever, a fast and reliable service with some fantastic weather onboard the 15 minute crossing and sight of a nuclear submarine heading off down the Clyde. It's a nice way to break the journey and stretch our legs/pop to the loo. However, as ever the advtange of taking the ferry and saving some miles is eroded with slow traffic through Gourock. Either way we do it, from our house to Glasgow airport is never less than 1 1/2 hours, and on this day it was 2 hours. From Glasgow the journey home was as ever, pretty smooth with just a bit of traffic coming in from day trippers out of Blackpool and the Lakes.
