Maintenance Jobs

This is an old post that we haven't gotten round to posting before now!

We've managed to find a good range of tradesman who turn up, do their stuff and charge a reasonable sum of money.

Garry is our roofer and he came to remove the flu pipe from where the boiler used to be (general tidy up) and give the roof the once over after winter. Man on the roof to do that - just over £100 - not over-priced!

The AGA had it's annual check and service, with the result being an observation that it was a little lacking in insulation inside it, but rectifying that by lifting the top off it could cause more issues so we'll just leave it. Could explain why the kitchen is sweltering and the door handle was getting a little too hot.

We also decided this summer to replace the oil tank - the previous one being probably 20 years old and showing signs of stress cracks. An expensive change - about £2500 - for something that looks just the same but obviously gives us reassurance and future-proofs the house for the next 20 years.

Bathroom quote

The last big job, hopefully, is to do on the house is the main bathroom. We've now managed to find a bathroom specialist for wet rooms and he's slotting us in later this year! Very exciting stuff. The first quote has been received and we are just finalising the details. Future post to follow when we know what we are going to do with it.

Tree down!

Even in the summer, with the trees in full leaf, we get stuff like this - turn around and go round. This tree down was on our single track road, so less of a priority for the local council, but shifted it was, and within a few hours too!

Render painting

The outside of the house has a lot of pebble dash rendering which is both 40 years old and is 'raw', as in never been painted. We bought some Santex last year and started the job, and now the weather seems to be better and John has some time and energy, we're cracking on! It's extremely time consuming to put on as neither a brush nor a roller seem to work well. Top tip - take the drainpipes off first though, and fully cover those new windows, the stuff gets everywhere! Still a way to go but it looks blooming good on the bits that we have done.
